E-commerce & B2B

Shopware 6 or WooCommerce for B2B: which platform fits your business model?

Shopware 6 and WooCommerce can both serve as the basis for a B2B shop, but they set different priorities. The platform choice should therefore be derived from the requirements for processes, data and operation, not from an isolated feature list.

Describe B2B requirements concretely

Before choosing a platform, customer roles, multiple delivery addresses, order limits, quotation processes and approval levels are documented. Whether prices and assortments are customer-specific also has a major influence on the architecture.

A real ordering process with repeat orders, tiered pricing and internal review is more meaningful than a generic demo. It shows where standard features are sufficient and where extensions become necessary.

Distinguish architecture and operation

Shopware is designed as a standalone commerce platform with an integrated data and rule model. WooCommerce extends WordPress and combines shop and CMS functions via its plugin architecture. This affects the data model, extensions, updates and later operation.

Depending on edition and contract, Shopware provides native B2B features whose scope may depend on the plan or licence. Operation may also bring additional requirements such as OpenSearch and suitable resources.

WooCommerce for flexible extensions

WooCommerce is a good fit if WordPress is already in use or if content, editorial pages and the shop are to be closely connected. The WooCommerce core is licensed under the GPL; B2B features are usually added through extensions. Their licences, dependencies, maintenance and compatibility must be checked.

For individual roles, approvals and interfaces, dedicated integration logic is often more robust than a large collection of unconnected extensions.

Decide based on the target picture

Both platforms can make sense if the data model, integrations and operating model fit the company. Extensibility, maintainability, permission concept, search and integration with ERP or CRM should be assessed in particular.

A limited prototype with real B2B cases provides more certainty than an abstract comparison. Technical limits become visible before the catalogue and customer processes are fully migrated.
